Are you going to be a high school junior or senior this coming fall? Are you a school leader or community activist? The Brooklyn Movement Center (the MC) is looking to hire two high school students for paid, part-time summer apprenticeships.
As a Community Organizing Apprentice at the MC, you will be an important part of the social change work we’re doing in Central Brooklyn. Apprentices will play a leadership role in the MC’s Street Team, a mobile group of organizers who be doing outreach at block parties and street festivals in Bed-Stuy and Crown Heights throughout the summer.
The MC staff will work closely with the Apprentices to train them in recruiting volunteers, conducting video surveys, and using other grassroots community organizing techniques. If you want to learn how to make changes in your community, the Brooklyn Movement Center is the place for you!
Requirements
- Apprentices must be starting as a senior or junior in fall 2012 at one of the five following high schools:
- Boys and Girls High School
- The Brooklyn Academy of Global Finance
- Brooklyn High School for Law and Technology
- Frederick Douglass Academy IV Secondary School
- Gotham Professional Arts Academy
Apprentices must be available to work a minimum of 20 hours a week (including weekends) over an 8-week period from July – August 2012.
Compensation
Apprentices will receive monthly living stipends and a transportation subsidy for their work.

The Brooklyn Movement Center (MC) is a new and emerging direct-action, community organizing body based in Central Brooklyn. The MC brings together the predominately of-color, working class residents of Central Brooklyn to identify important issues and win concrete improvements in their own lives.
