The Von King Cultural Arts Center has its share of issues: a backed up sewage system, insufficient power, and non-space (see page 260). Wouldn’t want to run out of power while Talib Kweli is on the mic. The City’s Office of Management and Budget reported the Parks Department decided to dedicate funds to deal with these issues this year at CB3′s request, though only partially.

The Von King Cultural Arts Center Needs Work!
According to page 333 of volume 2 of the City’s Adopted Capital Commitment Plan for Fiscal Year 2013, the Center will receive $2.551 million in construction and design.
When will this construction begin? If I read the budget correctly, the milestone start date was March of 2011 and the milestone end date was May of 2011. I’ve seen some Parks staff working on a sewage drain in the Park that was spewing out water a couple weeks ago. So maybe the construction has already started or hasn’t even begun? I’ll keep you updated as I get more info.
